Amelanchier laevis ‘Snowcloud’
Amelanchier laevis ‘Snowcloud’ or ‘Snowcloud’ Shadblow is a member of Rosaceae (the rose family), and is native to eastern Canada and eastern United States. Trees belonging to the genus Amelanchier offer four seasons of interest — small white flowers (occasionally pinkish) in spring, edible berries in early summer, attractive foliage color in fall and interesting bark/branch structure in winter. The species range from small trees (achieving up to 30′ in height) to large shrubs, usually multi-stemmed.
Common names for amelanchier include juneberry and serviceberry, and refer to the blueberry-like fruit edible by humans and much beloved by birds. The fruit, which are pomes, ripen in autumn. They are edible and can be eaten raw or cooked. The fruit has a sweet flavor.
